Hee Yun Kim
Founder · Artistic Director · Composer
Hee Yun Kim is a composer whose music interweaves expressive lyricism with diverse cultural and contemporary influences. Her work explores timbre, texture, and narrative, engaging deeply with themes of nature, memory, and psychological depth. Most recently, her multidisciplinary work Calling of the Whales was invited to the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, highlighting her commitment to presenting original, narrative-driven works on a national and international scale.
Kim’s music has received numerous recognitions, including being a laureate in the Pablo Casals International Composition Competition (France), second prize in the Tokyo International Chamber Music Composition Competition, and selection for the National Arts Centre’s Composers Programme (Canada). Her work has been supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, ArtsActivate, Culture of Value, and the Seoul Cultural Foundation.
Kim holds degrees in composition from Seoul National University (B.M., M.M.), the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków (Doctoral Diploma), and the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign (D.M.A.). As the founder and artistic director of Threaded Resonance, she originates productions that reimagine the concert experience by connecting music, meaning, and imagination.

Joel Olivas
Technical Director · Multimedia Designer
Joel Olivas is an interactive multimedia designer, video engineer, and production manager dedicated to creating immersive environments where technology and live performance meet. Holding a B.A.S. from the University of North Texas, he serves as a vital bridge between technical systems and creative expression. Through light, sound, and projection, he creates performer-specific works that interact with and manipulate the digital and auditory spaces they inhabit.
An Elevator Project alumnus and recipient of a TACA New Works Grant with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Olivas has been tapped for his expertise by premier immersive organizations including Meow Wolf, ARTECHOUSE, and Sweet Tooth Hotel. His expansive portfolio has been exhibited at major festivals such as SOLUNA, SXSW, and the Aurora Light & Sound Biennial. Beyond installations, his technical precision has taken him on tour for large-scale projection mapping and into top-tier venues across the United States.
As Technical Director for Threaded Resonance, Olivas led the technical execution for the recent presentation of Calling of the Whales at the Kennedy Center. His expertise allows the organization to move beyond fixed formats, integrating complex technical layers into original multidisciplinary works. He continues to lead the technical evolution of the organization, ensuring every production maintains a high standard of sensory innovation.

Hojung Kim
Artistic Advisor · Cellist
Cellist Hojung Kim is an internationally recognized artist celebrated for her technical mastery and heartfelt musical interpretations. Her distinguished career began with top prizes in prestigious competitions, including the Dong-A Ilbo Music Competition and the Hohnen Competition in Cologne. After graduating with the highest honors from the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg and the Musikhochschule Köln, she served as Principal Cellist for both the Korean Symphony Orchestra and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.
A prolific performer, Kim maintains a schedule of 30–40 concerts annually, including solo appearances at the Sejong Center and Seoul Arts Center. In addition to her role as a Professor of Music at Kyungpook National University, she has become an active contributor to the North Texas arts community, recently presenting recitals at SAGU University and performing with the orchestra at Prestonwood in Plano.
As Artistic Advisor for Threaded Resonance, Kim brings her global expertise and chamber music leadership to the ensemble. She ensures the highest standards of musicality, bridging her deep classical pedigree with the organization’s innovative, original productions.

Moving beyond fixed formats, we originate works and curate projects that integrate music with varying disciplines—including multimedia, dance, theatre, and literature—to explore diverse narratives and cultural perspectives. We are equally committed to the creative development of new repertoire, educational programming and community outreach that foster artistic growth and cultivate engaged audiences.
